Roadside Rescue

Why do people throw furniture out on the side of the road? Not only are they littering, but there may be someone who could really use it. So why not donate it? Maybe they know there are people like me who will stop & pick it up. I have also passed that habit on to my daughter. So, when she spotted this piece on the side of the road, she pulled the car over and we loaded it up!

I had been looking for the perfect piece to use the French Ceramics II transfer from Re*design With Prima on and knew that this was it.

I painted the cabinet with the color, Fluff, from The Dixie Belle Paint Company and added the transfer to the drawer and door fronts.

I found the perfect knobs at Hobby Lobby to replace the original ones.

I wonder... if I set this piece out on the road in the spot where it was discarded, would the people who threw it out stop and pick it up! We'll never know because I would never do that.

Instead, it will go to a new home where it will be loved and appreciated.

I want to know how everyone but me knows about all these new paints to use. Is there a decor paint website? I'm jealous!

Can the transfer paper be used on the tops of side tables and if so do I need to protect it with something like polyurethane?

FYI, we've always placed our unwanted furniture on the sidewalk where it is always

picked up by needy people within several hours. One woman stopped and asked us to set a reclining chair aside till her son could pick it up with his truck. Not everyone has access to a free donation center. However, free pickup on the side of the road is just that, FREE! not littering. It is done throughout several communities here in MA.

That's great that you can offer pieces for free. I live out in the country on a long dirt road & people often use the part of the road where no one lives to dump their unwanted items. You'd be surprised at things people dump on our road...toilets, appliances, tires, etc. It's rare for it to be usable furniture.
