This functional DIY cactus ring holder doesn't just store your rings and other jewelry or knick knacks, it's also a great way to add a fun home decor accessory to your space!
I seem to always be losing my earrings or misplacing rings. While a traditional ring holder works great for keeping my rings where I know I can find them, earrings are another story. So I turned a storage jar into both a jewelry "box" that keeps earrings safely tucked inside a jar, with a ring holder on top!

Since cacti are trending, I chose to use a cactus mold to make the cactus for the top of my ring holder. However, you can also hand build a cactus if you are really creative or simply want to customize your jewelry holder more.

If you're buying the materials for this DIY cactus ring holder at your local craft store and already have some paints on hand, this project will probably cost around $6 to make for a single jar and Sculpey oven bake clay and $7 for the reusable silicone mold.
Begin by softening a block of white Sculpey oven bake clay by kneading it with your hands until it's soft and pliable. Then firmly press the clay into a silicone cactus mold.

Remove any excess clay from the edges, then carefully remove the clay from the mold.
Now form an additional chunk of clay onto the lid of a glass craft jar. Then, attach the clay cactus to the clay covered lid. ( Check out my original tutorial for my DIY cactus ring holder at Soap Deli News blog for tips on this step.)

Then place the lid and clay together on a baking sheet and bake in your oven at 275°F for about 30 minutes. Once baked, remove the cactus lid from the oven and allow it to cool.
Once the clay has cooled, use acrylic craft paint to paint the cactus and the lid base as desired. Allow to dry then seal the paint with a clear acrylic sealer.
All that's left now is to place your jewelry or knick knacks inside the glass jar. Then screw on the lid and place your rings onto the arms of the cactus! It's that easy!
