I did this to have a place to store the rolls of toilet paper, as I hate the bags that they come packed in. You can find a lot more details in the article on my blog, listed at the end.
I used a 4 cm thick beech wood panel which I cut square, 20 cm by 20 cm. I marked the center of it by intersecting it's diagonals
I drilled a 30 mm hole in the center, to fit a round bar that I purchased separately. The hole was not drilled all the way, but just halfway through
I glued the rod in the hole and sanded everything smooth. The sanding needs to be as smooth as possible, so the varnish seals the wood perfectly
I finished everything using water based stuff: stain, primer and varnish.
The toilet paper holder can store up to five standard rolls.
Suggested materials:
  • Beech wood panel
  • Beech wood 30 mm round rod
