How to make a citrus potpourri for a simmer pot. You can simmer this liquid potpourri in an Instant Pot, slow cooker, or on the stove top. This gives your home a natural scent for several hours. After a few hours, remove from heat and let cool. Then store in the fridge for up to 4 days to reuse your liquid potpourri.

I used fresh limes and fresh herbs along with a pure peppermint extract. You can also used dried herbs if desired.

You will need:

  • 2 limes
  • 4 sprigs of thyme
  • 1/2 ounce mint leaves
  • 2 teaspoons pure peppermint extract
  • 8 cups water

Slice the limes into thin slices.

Then add all ingredients to either a heavy pan, your Instant Pot liner, or a slow cooker. Let simmer for several hours. Be careful that it does not run out of water. Add more water as needed.

Then turn off the heat and let cool. You can then store it in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 4 days and reuse it. Feel free to customize your scent with limes, grapefruits, or other herbs. You can also add 1-2 drops of essential oils if desired. Basil and freshly sliced ginger would also smell really good with the limes!

Ohh, this sounds so refreshing! I mix spices for fall and winter simmering potpourri scents, but hadn’t thought about a summer refresh. Great idea and very easy to do - thanks!

I want to do these as a natural way to refresh my new home. How many times can you reuse this mixture? How would you use this as a long term freshener?
