Here is a super straight-forward, easy project to make your front door a little more festive without spending lots of $$$.
For this project you need:
-large pieces of cardboard
-Exacto knife or scissors
-paint (I used white for a base, then black and orange glitter paint)
-hot glue or similar
-ribbon
First, draw out your letters on the cardboard. If you want, you can print out a template or you can freehand it. The fun thing with this, is that you can spell out almost anything you want, as long as you size it correctly for your door.
You will need a small and a large cutout for each letter. I started with all of the small ones - drawing and cutting, then placed the cutouts on a new section of cardboard and drew a border slightly larger than the first.

When everything is cut out, paint your letters with a base coat. I used white, but it would actually work best if you used the same color as the glitter paint you are using for each layer.
Next, you will add several layers of the glitter paint. It takes at least 3 layers before you get a fairly solid coat of glitter.
*You could also use Modge Podge and loose glitter for this if you don’t want to use the glitter paint.*
When everything is dry, glue the small and large pieces of each letter together.
The last step is to add the to ribbon. You want each piece to be long enough to wrap around the bottom of one letter and the top of the next, and have overlap at the back to glue it.
I made two loops at the very top so my letters stayed mostly flat against the door instead of trying to twist.
Hang it up and enjoy!

How did you get the letters so perfect?

Where do you get a template that will print the large letters ? How does it print out huge letter sizes like this from a printer?

I couldn't hang from door but I pulled a piece of siding. Took an earth magnetic, cut off hook; but on inside of siding. Replaced siding and put another magnetic with hook on the outside and hug wreath beside door. I lied, my son pulled siding; never knew there was a tool for pulling siding.

  • Too cute and so simple, yet with high impact. Great share! 🎃👀🍊
