Inspired by another DIY'er here I went to the Dollar Tree searching for toy traffic cones for a witch hat. Couldn't find any cones, but I did find some things to try to re-create the inspiration hat.

Here's my stash. Some is for a mobile project for Halloween. So I found a cute witch hat with silver polka dots, ribbon, flowers, bats, shiny purple cord and spiders I had on hand.

First I pleated the wire ribbon around the brim using

hot glue. Boy, it's hot so my fingers were glad when this part was done.

After I glued the purple cord around I made a bow from the excess ribbon, added one flower, a bat and a few spiders. I left some of the cord unglued to stream over the brim.

The black bat doesn't show up. Maybe I can find a green frog!

If you are wondering how to display a hat, you need something to help keep the top from flopping over.

I have cats and I don't want them knocking this over. I found a wine bottle that fit in a vase and then I used a yogurt carton to beef up the neck bottle. Not very pretty at this stage.

I added some orange and black balls (also from Dollar Tree), but you could also put candy corn or whatever will fit into the bottle.

Here I put some black roses around the base. Lots of ways to dress up my little hat for October viewing.

Update: A second trip to Dollar Store produced a different, light weight bat. This one shows up! No worries about the previous bat as I also found a garland. I have a "happy wall" where I hang cards or decorations during the year and the bat clips can hold cards on the garland. See picture below.

I found more cute items from Dollar Store. Flashing pumpkins and an owl! (view video up top)

When I first posted that I had purchased the garland, I hadn't opened it. Wow. I can't believe it was only $1. It is all felt and the pieces are thick. It has cutouts of a ghost, raven, two different cats and a spider. I tied it up with black and orange ribbon. So glad I grabbed it when I saw it and hope anyone interested can find one too! The little bat clip-ons are going to work great for holding cards or decorations.
