Not that anyone NEEDS an excuse to drink lots of wine but this project makes wonderful use of the wine bottles. You might want to get the neighbors involved by asking for their empties. We had no problem getting all we needed.
After you've removed the labels and wiped the outside glass line up the wine bottles in your driveway.
Spray paint the bottles with the color of your choice. We went with gold since these were for my father in law's 75th birthday celebration. Maybe red or pink for Valentines Day although gold is so classy for any celebration.
You can also give them a clear coat of spray paint to protect them from finger smudges if you think these will be kept as a memento.

Once you have your bottles painted the color of your choice you can decide what you want to do next.
We really love the glittered bottles and it was simple to use a foam paintbrush to brush on glue and sprinkle glitter on the bottom half. I won't deny there was glitter on the floor for quite awhile. Do this outdoors or in a box, etc. You'll thank me for this tip.

Wrapping ribbon around the middle finished it up nicely.

I made quite a few with the words "Aged to perfection 1942" using vinyl cut from my Cricut machine but you could use whatever words you like.
There are wonderful Valentines, birthday, and other celebratory quotes that would work so well.

I also tied ribbon around the neck of the bottle to complete the look.
If you don't have a Cricut and are handy you could handpaint your words onto the bottle. I'm not that talented though lol. So here you see I'm applying the vinyl letters, easy peasy.
As a final touch we put corks in the bottles, slit the corks enough to slide in a double sided photo of the birthday boy when he was younger and put them on the tables. It really went over well with the gorgeous bottles and the photos. It gave everyone something to talk about and encouraged wandering about to see all the photos.

Whatever your celebration may be using free wine bottles is the cheapest and best looking decor!
