Easy DIY Bow Tie for Your Dog - for Those Special Occasions

First of all-how cute is my little boy? My Shih Tzu Starbuck definitely likes to dress up. I recently hosted a bridal shower for my daughter and I decided that he should look his best for this happy occasion!
Here's how I did it:

I measured his neck - I couldn't find my tape measure so I just used a piece of lace that I had on hand. I cut the lace to fit the measurement of his neck.
I then cut a piece of elastic the same size as the lace.
Each dog is different in size. You determine the width that you want the bow tie to be. The fabric for the collar measurement should be double that of the elastic.
Be sure to sew with the right sides of the fabric together.
These are my cuts for the tie. I just roughly gauged the size that I wanted.
I sewed all of the bow tie pieces at the same time.
And then turned them right side out.
TIP: Place a safety pin at one end of the elastic before you start threading it through the collar portion of the tie. Be sure to tightly hold the other end as you are working the elastic through.
Sew the two ends of the elastic together.
And sew the collar ends. I wrapped the center piece around the collar and the bow and tacked them into place.
Tada!!! Starbuck blended in so well the shower decor :)
Hope you give this cute project a try!
