During the Holiday Season I always want to drape and cover every single surface I can with garland. Living evergreen garland can be quite pricey though.

One year while perusing my local tree lot I noticed that they had a large crate of free scraps. I asked the staff and they told me I could take as much as I wanted. So I loaded up and headed home determined to figure out how to make my own evergreen garland.

This project was next to free, the only cost was for some floral wire to make the bunches and string your bunches together once they're made. You want a medium-heavy gauge to make sure it will be sturdy enough and won't snap on you.

You want to snip your pine scraps into small manageable pieces. I found through trial and error that smaller bunches worked better than super large ones.

I used two different types of floral wire, a vine wrapped heavy gauge, and then a smaller gauge for wrapping the bunches.

I used the wrapped vine wire as pretty much the "backbone of the garland.

Then use the smaller floral wire around your bunch a couple times and then simply add your next bunch next to it down the line you are creating.

After you get your first bunch together, you do not want to snip the wire off, you want to have 1 singular continuous piece of wire throughout your entire garland.

Repeat adding small bunches down the line of garland you are creating. It feels like you are not getting anywhere for a while, I wanted to quit multiple times. Just keep going!

Soon you will have a line of garland going.

Tip- I found that keeping pre gathered small bunches around me as I worked helped this process go quicker. So looking back, I would precut and pre lay out a good amount of greenery bunches around your working area before you even get started.

Use some clear 3M command hooks or small nails to hang your garland on your desired spot and ta da!

This is a really good way to get the length of garland you need without breaking the bank.
