Make This Easy Pillow Sham

In this post, I'll show you how to make an easy envelope pillow sham out of silk sari pieces (or scarves). This is a West Elm knock-off inspired by some silk sari pillows that they sell.
The pillow inserts I used were 10" x 20," so adjust the sizing below if your pillow inserts are larger or smaller.
Cut the following pieces:
- Lining fabric: 22" x 27"
- Pillow sham fabric: 22 1/2" x 29"
Use 5/8" seams everywhere unless noted otherwise.
I started by sewing together three pieces of silk for each pillow sham from a supply of silk sari scraps that I bought awhile ago. Two pieces alone weren't quite big enough, but three were a little too big. We'll cut these down later. You could also find silk scarves at a thrift store to use for these pillow cases.
This ended up being too wide, so once I was done, I centered the middle piece on my cutting mat, and I cut enough off from each side so that the whole piece was 22 1/2" wide and 29" tall.
Hem the shorter edges. I used my coverstitch machine, but you can use any method you like. If you don't have a coverstitch machine or serger, fold up the raw edge once, and then fold it up again to enclose the raw edges.
Once the ends are hemmed, fold up the bottom edge up 6" and fold down the top edge to make the whole piece about 12 1/4." Sew up the sides to enclose the pillow sham. Finish the edges with whatever method you prefer. You could even leave this raw, as it won't show from the outside.

Just a word of note: silk will bleed on what ever it touches if it gets wet.
