To make your own DIY pumpkin spice mix jar you'll need to begin with some aluminum foil. Crumple up a ball of aluminum foil into an apple or pumpkin shape in the size you’d like your pumpkin to be on top of the jar.
Once you have a pumpkin shaped foil ball you're ready for the next step!
Knead a large chunk of white polymer clay until it’s soft and pliable, then roll it out into a large circle that is about 1/4″ thick.
Shape the clay around the ball of pumpkin shaped foil cutting out sections and removing excess clay as you shape it around the foil. Blend the seams where the clay meets together so it’s a solid layer of clay over the foil.
Now smooth the sides of your clay pumpkin down, then add a clay pumpkin stem.
Next, use a potter’s rib or a similar tool to add indentations around the diameter of your clay pumpkin.
Once you've finished creating your pumpkin from clay, shape clay 1/4" thick around the outside lid to your jar. Make a slight indentation in the clay on your jar lid that your pumpkin will be able to rest in.
Leaving the clay attached to the jar lid, bake the lid and the pumpkin together in a 275°F oven for about 15 minutes on a baking sheet. Then remove and allow it to cool.
Once cool, use craft paints to paint the clay jar lid and pumpkin. Allow the paint to dry, then spray the two pieces with several coats of a clear acrylic sealer.
Once dry, glue the pumpkin to your jar lid using E6000 or a similar strong bond craft glue.
When the glue dries, your pumpkin jar is finished. Simply screw the lid onto the jar.
Then fill your DIY pumpkin spice mix jar with homemade pumpkin spice to gift!
You can also decorate the outside of the jar with stickers or scrapbook embellishments as desired.
