Fun Holiday Game: How to Make Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe
Who doesn't love a game of Tic Tac Toe? It's a classic pastime that's perfect for beating boredom or passing the time while hanging out. But have you ever thought about integrating this beloved childhood game into your fall decor?
Last year when we had our big fall festival at my store, I made these large Tic Tac Toe games that you could play with real pumpkins. This year, I wanted to make one on a smaller scale something nice to sit on top of my coffee table.
So, let me show you how to craft your very own Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe set that's perfect for adding a touch of fall flair to your home.
I headed to my local Dollarama and gathered some supplies. I knew just what I could use to make this coffee table version.

Feel free to choose paint colors that match your decor style, but for a finish like mine, these are the ones I recommend.
1. Prepare the Wood Panel
Begin by painting your Wood Artist Panel, using Vintage Effect Wash in Brown. Vintage Effect Wash can be used just like a stain, so brush it on and then rub your piece with a lint-free cloth. Make sure you paint the entire panel — all surfaces.
2. Prepare the Pumpkins
Paint all 10 pumpkins with white acrylic paint. This is just for priming purposes.
Divide the pumpkins into two groups of 5.
For the first group, paint the vertical indent lines with Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Rustic. Apply a small amount of paint to create definition.
Grab a foam brush and dab on the Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Heritage and then once it’s a bit tacky, use a lint-free cloth to dab the paint to create a rustic “beat up” look.
Take the second group of 5 pumpkins and paint the vertical indent lines using black acrylic paint. As before, apply just enough paint for definition.
With Vintage Effect Wash in Grey and a foam brush, dab the paint on the pumpkins. Once it's slightly tacky, use a lint-free cloth to create that rustic, worn appearance.
Remove the plastic tops of the pumpkins. Break a stick into small pieces and push the sticks into the tops of the foam pumpkins.
3. Create the Board
Cut four wooden dowel pieces to fit within the Wood Artist Panel in a Tic Tac Toe board formation. Make sure they fit snugly. If needed, use a bit of hot glue to secure them in place.
