Embellished Lamp Shade

2 Materials

Lamp shades are pricey, especially if they have any character. So why not dress up a plain lamp shade or a thrifted one for next to nothing.

The tassels are almost therapeutic to make. I found it relaxing. The tassels could be used in so many projects. Pillows, garland, ornaments, etc...

Look how boring this shade was.

The yarn was $2.78 and the ribbon was one dollar from the Dollar Store.

First thing is to cut a piece of card board for wrapping based on the size of the tassle you are going for.

Next wrap it around. I wrapped mine about ten times, but you'll be able to tell when it's enough.

I like the thicker yarn because there's less wrapping.

Now carefully slide it off the card board and have a piece of yarn ready to tie around close to the top. Don't wrap the yarn too tight around the card board or it will be difficult to slide off neatly.

Then cut your bottom loops and trim.

It goes quite fast once you get the hang of it.

I then used a large needle to thread my ribbon through.

See how you could use this as garland as well!

You could also add wooden beads if you wanted even more of a boho/farmhouse look.

Love the tassels and the new look of the lampshade.

The fabric on what seems to be the electric cord - ? What is that? Great to disguise the cord against the wall that matches the paint.

The tassels are too large for the shade. Also a more refined cord would have been in tune wth the fabric used in the shade. The devil in the details.
