Towel rack alternative ?

Hi Pam, I use the towel bars because that's what was aleady in my bathroom. A friend uses hooks and I believe it really is personal preference. The hooks allows the towels to dry within 24 hours, so no problem there. IMHO, the hooks provide a more casual look. Just be sure the hooks you use project enough away from where they are attached to allow the towels to stay on the hook. Some towels from Ikea actually have loops on the sides to hang from hooks for those who like that idea.

Hi! We use both a towel rack and hooks. Vastly prefer the towel bar. The towels on the hooks dry really slowly and get stinky faster.

When I remodeled my bathroom I used hooks. I liked them for a while, but they stuck out too far. I did notice the towels took longer to dry and I think it made the bathroom look sloppy. I repaired the wall where the 2 hooks were and added a towel rack. I did leave a hook on the back of the door for my robe.

I have hooks behind my door and I have a tall bookcase and I roll up my extra towels and I place them in the shelved.

Both my bathrooms have both towel bars and hooks. Towel bars are for the pretty display (guest) towels and hooks for the towels I actually use. However I live in a hot arid climate where even in the winter, the towels dry in a matter of a few hours. And I don't have a bathroom door. Small home and has pocket doors so some of the choices were made for me. The back of the bedroom door i have a slew of hooks for towels, turbie twists, robes, nightgowns. No one comes in since we are in the midst of a pandemic. Besides visitors are rarely in my master bedroom/bath anyway. It is truly a climate and personal style choice.

We have hooks and no towel bar. For years we have toyed with the idea of a heated towel bar/rack, it never happened although it sounds like a delightful idea.

As others have stated, and correctly, the towels on the hooks do dry slower. However, the terry cloth bath mat goes over the side of the tub to dry quicker.

In addition, hubby hangs his bathrobe and sometimes flannel shirts on the hooks, which slows the towel drying time.

I use a hook that attaches to the back of the door. If I want to hang it like a towel rack I just use the curtain rod.

I have used large hooks for years. I am in Florida, and I have never had a problem with my towels not drying. I will certainly keep using the hooks.

Hi Pam. Our house came with a powder/laundry room. We have a towel ring to hold a hand towel right by the sink in the powder room. And it works well for us. No towels hanging around to look messy. Our hall bathroom has a linen closet in it. No towel bar in this bathroom either. All 3 bedrooms have hooks on the back of the doors. They are the kind that are like a U shape and go over the top of the door. They cause no damage at all. (I didn't want hooks that screwed into the door.) We dry our towels by hanging them on these hooks. And it's a system that works well for us. Good luck Pam.

Love hooks for hanging coats, keys and towels too.

It is a good way to organize smaller areas.

Hello. In the past besides towel racks we have used peg boards and over the door coat and wall mounted towel hooks.

I have the kind you screw directly in the wall and love them. So much better than a towel rack because I can hang them in less space. I haven't had any issues with mildew or my towels not drying. However we leave our bathroom doors open so the room can dry out after a shower.

I have towel hooks and drying towels is not a problem. I never did like the messy look of towels thrown over a towel bar. I am in NC too.

I use a coat hook style hanger on the back of bathroom doors. Seems to be just fine for us

I have a wooden shelf with 4 hooks on it for all our bath towels and I love it!

I have both, small towel bars for the folded towels to hang on, and hooks for the towels in use.

I have door hooks I bought from dollar tree on all my doors. Yes I use the one in the bathroom for towels to dry and same in my room. That's where I go to dry off so why not hang towels there too. I just have to remember to grab them before my shower lol.

I have towel Rings, Rails and Hooks. I think Rings are ok, but the towels are never put back right, The Hooks are not good if towel is damp as they go out of shape when dry, so my first choice would be towel rail. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info! I ended up going with a towel rod vs hooks although I did hang a hook next to the tub/ shower combo for easy reach. The bathroom is narrow and holding up hooks to the wall I realized it was a space issue. I was afraid guests might catch their arms on the hooks or kids might hit their heads on them. I switched out the 24 inch one with an ORB and then bought an 28 inch one to hang on the wall behind the door so that two towels will dry more efficiently.
