What are good DIY's to do in quarantine?

I'm always checking Hometalk and Pinterest for fun kid activities to do with my granddaughter. We've made lights out of ping pong balls (they look great in a fairy village), rocks painted to look like ladybugs and bees, canvas art, dress design (she likes to design for her dolls), wreaths, weaving (she does potholder weaving with her other grandmother) which can even be done on a piece of cardboard. It all depends on your interests, your supplies, and who you are working with. There are free downloads for coloring pages on the internet. Can you go outside? My husband has a medical condition that puts him at risk, so he has been working on our flower beds on mild days, raking them and cleaning them up. I just painted a bedroom since my granddaughter can't play with me right now, since she has a confirmed case of the flu (she had a flu shot). I'm also spring cleaning and decluttering .

OMG....I wish all I could do is DIY. HAHA....stuck homeschooling my kids. Yikes. Anyway, the best part of this website is that you can get soooo many ideas. I'm planning on doing some serious spring cleaning and reorganization of my kitchen cabinets. Check for expired food and if you have something getting close, cook it first.

On the fun side, do some research on family tree. Reach out to some cousins that I haven't talked to in a while.

We have a lot of little jobs we have been putting off doing, but there is no reason to put them off any longer, and a lot to be gained by doing them. There are hobbies I have been wanting to get back to doing Handicrafts,Art,Sewing, guess I might actually get around to doing them now. I have not been one for keeping a diary over the years, but I think if I did it will make interesting reading if not the beginnings of a book? - a film etc. Silly me, got carried away for the moment!

I think I will work in the mornings and watch TV or do a hobby in the afternoon, go to bed early and catch up on my beauty sleep - Hope it's not too late. Ha Ha......

If we have to be stuck at home, this is a good time for it. My last child moved out a couple weeks ago, and we are doing some minor renovating so that we can move our bedroom upstairs, and make our main floor bedroom into my husband's office. We are also turning our second floor balcony into a catio.

Any small improvement project you have the materials for is a good DIY. Paint a wall hanging, regrout tile, paint a room. Hope everyone finds a productive way to stay busy of the next few weeks!

Oh, the stainless steel shelves in the kitchen need organizing, the second bedroom has a considerable amount of clutter, the list goes on and on. Stuff that is just not fun to do.

And give my wonderful husband a massage.

This is a great time to get things cleaned and reorganized. I'm spending my time getting the DIY projects on my list done - refinishing a small table, bathroom cabinets painted, start seeds for the garden, maybe even get some Christmas gift ideas completed - I'm thinking of shirts made (I have a heat press).

Painting recycled bottles is an easy and cheap craft.

This is an opportunity for a time out. Spend time with your healthy loved ones and teach what you know or learn what others know. How about simply teaching a child how to sew on a button, change the oil in a car, iron, do laundry, etc. that we're usually too busy to teach others. Time to spend outdoors and do a bit of cleanup and get some good outdoor exercise. Ask others what they'd like to do that can be done in a small group, you'll be amazed at the ideas ou'll get. Play dress up, go through your closet and organize, the number of things to do is limitless!

Painting is the first thing that comes to mind . You can re organize closets & shelves , get an early start on spring cleaning . You can clean up your garage or hard , or start a garden !

For me I'm getting ready to do a lot of caulk repairs. I also plan on finishing some of the projects that are so close to complete, but not quite there. Now that the weather is warming up, I'm going to clean my window sills because OMGness they are gross. Wipe down the walls and just do a really good spring clean. I am also planning on reorganizing some closets and swapping my linen closet to what was once my hall closet because it's bigger. I'm hoping to teach my kids and get them involved in some of the projects around the house. Are there any projects you were thinking of doing?

Melinda....Crafts, games, movies, stories, spring cleaning, jig saw puzzle, cook, bake, make homemade ice cream. Of course those last items are if you have the groceries needed. Somebody told me the will be lots of new babies in the next 9 months.....!!!!!

Paint an accent wall or two. I just did a fun stenciled accent wall. I'm also planning to do a couple of modern furniture makeovers. I planned several projects ahead and stocked up on all the supplies, since I assume we'll be locking down any day now.

Check Pinterest or Utube for some great ideas. I have also seen lots of ideas on Facebook.

Hi Melinda, there are so many things you can do. I would start by looking around your home and noting all those things that need fixing or that you'd like to change. This could include painting old furniture to give it a new look, or fixing those sticky hinges on a cupboard door. Create a spreadsheet and list what supplies you'll need for each DIY idea along with what you have on hand. That way you can narrow down what you can do without leaving home and which things may need to wait for later when you're out of quarantine. Best of luck and have fun

Or find something you would normally donate, and repurpose it for something you can give as a gift or use it at your home!
