Several months ago I bought these 2 vintage wooden spools at a garage sale. They seemed that they would be perfect for something but what exactly? At $5 each, I decided to "buy now, decide later". They've become two of my favorite decorating items.
With differing heights, I decided they were perfect for display stands. I debated about painting them but decided that I liked the vintage color of the tops.
To give them uniformity, I found a piece of wood grain scrapbook paper in my stash and wrapped the center portion adhering with double sided tape. I then added imitation succulents in the top and placed a small wooden statue for interest. Another small potted succulent rounded out the result.
The great thing about utilizing the scrapbook paper is that I can change the motif to match any holiday, season or occasion. This is how I utilized the spools around Halloween time.
While they are perfect for tablescape decor and I can't wait to transform them for the holidays, I'm sure they will have multiple uses throughout the years. Please share your own ideas and designs.
