Easy Lettered Fall Burlap Cushion

I'm a big fan of lettered home decor items - pillows, banners, paintings, etc. - so bringing this to our porch was high on my list of updates for fall. Paired with orange burlap, the black 'FALL' lettering makes a great seasonal statement which our neighbors have been enjoying as much as we have!
Not only is this update fun, it's also functional, adding cushioning and warmth to our swing for the cooler autumn season. But the best part? It's easy!! Here's how I made this easy lettered fall burlap cushion:
Measure your swing and cut a piece for the top from the burlap and a piece for the bottom with a coordinating fabric. Put right sides together and sew, leaving an opening of about 12 inches. Turned the cushion cover right side out.
Make block letters for the word "FALL" on paper (either by hand or on the computer), cut them out and space them evenly on the cushion front. Trace around the letters with a permanent marker.
Fill in the letters by painting with black acrylic paint. You'll want to protect your surface with paper (or a vinyl tablecloth like I used) and slip something in between the front and the back like several layers of plastic garbage bags, as the paint will seep through the burlap. I found that it took a while for the paint to dry on the burlap, as well, so let it dry thoroughly before removing the protection.
When the paint is dry, stuff the "pillow" with plastic bags, like I did, or alternatively, fill it with polyester fiberfill or pillows you already have. I simply pinned the opening shut but you could sew it shut if you wanted.
All that is left is to tie it to the swing or bench back using twine that is simply looped through the burlap. How easy is that?
