Drying Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are my favourite flowers and with several bushes in my yard I love to bring the blooms indoors to use in my decor. Drying them is a great way to use the blooms year round.
Displaying the blooms on my dinning room table in several jars and vases with a few inches of water.
I pick the blooms from my garden in various shades at the end of the summer
As the water evaporates the blooms will begin to dry
The colour of the blooms will change as they dry.

To "preserve" flowers, add a bit of glycerin to the water, let sit for a few days and then hang upside down to "dry" so the glycerin spreads to all the petals. You will get a much softer and less brittle flower. They also tend to not lose as many petals and will keep their color a little better. I've done this with Baby's Breath many times and it works great. You can also use silica powder to dry flowers quite quickly and this method will also keep the colors a little better, but you will definitely need to use a preserving spray or hair spray to prevent brittleness/crumbling.

Ive tried it and all mine do is droop and little flower petals fall off
