I came up with this creative air plant display idea – DIY project, when I found myself with so many air plants that they needed to be transformed into a dramatic tabletop centerpiece.

Air Plants come in so many colors and shapes

This display began when a beautiful walnut cutting board cracked, after many years of use. I couldn’t just leave it in a corner and not use the wood for creating something new. Have you had anything that you just can’t let go of

This is one of mine!

I thought I should cut the wood in different size pieces and create a layered look to display air plant.

You can create this look with any scrap of wood you have in your home.

What will you Need?

  • Get creative and find unique pieces around your home!
  • Different types of air plants; different colors, textures and heights.
  • Fresh herbs from your garden.
  • A piece that is a vintage or meaningful item.
  • Feathers
  • Wood Blocks
  • Tea Candles with clear cup
  • Jar with different textures and colors to add a vintage look.

I found the tray on amazon and loved the different jars. That is when I decided to take it to the next level.

What to place the Air plants in for a creative look

The most important thing when you do a creative air plant display is to use different textures and glass sizes to bring together the story. I found this Amazon decor piece and realized that the glasses had a vintage feel and I transformed the look to be a creative air plant display.

The best thing is, no water needed!

This fact really makes for allowing for creative ways to display air plants.

I just love this about them. So much you can do with air plants!

How to Frame an Air Plant Display.

There are a few important things that I followed for a creative air plant display:

Feathers provide a great contrast to Air Plants
  • Anchor your display with taller air plants at the ends. Feathers are also a great addition.
  • Use candle light to highlight the dramatic shapes and soften them against the wood.
  • Introduce your favorite herb to soften the linear shapes.
Herbs are a great way to soften the edges of the Creative Air Plant Display

Herbs and Feathers anchor the ends and center of the Creative Air Plant display.

An Air plant Display can be as unique as you Dream of.

How to bring it all together your Display

A creative air plant display does not need to be complicated. You can achieve this by bringing the pieces you love the most and anchoring them on a raised surface to contain them and frame the look.

Now that you have the tools, go create an amazing display with your favorite air plants! I use air plants in so many ways, but I think a table centerpiece is my favorite creative air plant display. Tell me how you plan to display yours! Remember that this is an opportunity to incorporate pieces that have a story and create what you love most, an opportunity to tell a story.
