Super Easy DIY Greenhouse Shelves
These shelves are great for greenhouses or garages where you don't need a place to store items, but you don't want to spend a lot of money on the project.
This project was born out of necessity. We had needed to reorganize our greenhouse and replace the shelving that was in there with something that didn't take up much floor space.
Not wanting to spend any money on this project, we decided to make some shelves out of things we already had at the farm. Concrete blocks and spare wood.
We used the concrete blocks to build legs for our shelves, and the wood became the support for our plants. It's so simple, it almost doesn't need instructions.
For this project you'll only need 2 things, concrete block and wood boards. The type of wood and size will depend on what you need.
We started by clearing out the greenhouse and cleaning all the walls with bleach water. We do this every year to make sure that we don't harbor infectious organisms in the place where we keep our precious seedlings. Then we made sure to level out the areas where we were placing the concrete blocks.
Measure out the length for your shelf and place your concrete blocks directly on the ground on either end and in the center. We placed 2 blocks on top of each other, then laid out the wood board, cut to length, on top of them. Two more blocks on top of the board made the foundation for a top shelf.
We had plenty of concrete block on our property from a remodel project, so we were able to make two shelves using 12 blocks and 4 planks each without purchasing any materials.
We created shelves that fit two of the walls in our greenhouse. This left us plenty of room for storage and a potting bench on the third wall. Of course, the door is on the fourth wall.
We placed a concrete block on the top shelf to keep the boards in place on the longer of the two shelves.
These shelves have been in our greenhouse for two seasons, and we've had no problems. They're easy to clean, cost efficient, and used up materials that were otherwise cluttering our farm.
