Farmhouse Chic Office Makeover

Now that I'm living in a true farmhouse I'm more and more drawn to the farmhouse style of decorating. I love everything from the neutral color schemes to the vintage distressed furniture pieces. I also love to re-purpose anything I can! I spend quite a bit of time in our home office, blogging, and running the business side of our farm, so a pleasant office space was a must!
Thankfully our home office gets a ton of natural light, so I felt comfortable going with a bold wall color. The color I chose is Academy Gray by Valspar. It's the perfect blend of gray and blue, and compliments my neutral decor well.
Before I go any further, let's take a look back at what this room looked like when we first bought our house. It felt like a dated tan box! We recently discovered the original wide planked hardwood flooring underneath all the carpet, so this summer we hope to uncover it all! Okay, now I'm back on track with the makeover story. Moving on!
I decided to give some cardboard magazine file boxes that I found in Target's dollar aisle a makeover. Here they are before.
I used chalkboard paint and some cute tags. Now they tie in with the rest of space much better, and add a nice rustic touch.
I used bead board wallpaper for the backing of the bookcases and painted them a soft gray color. It creates the perfect backdrop for the items I chose to display on the shelves, and the bead board adds another farmhouse element to the space.
As for styling the bookcases, I used items I already had around the house. I kept the colors for all the accessories very neutral. As long as you have a variety of textures throughout a space, neutral colors are never boring! They are quite lovely. Thanks so much for taking a peak inside my farmhouse chic home office! I absolutely love the bead board backing in the shelves. We are buying a farm and I plan to use this in the farm office/study. So clever to update tired shelving units.

Love it. I would get a bigger desk though.
