An Easy DIY Industrial Chic Wine Rack

Do you have any friends who are casual oenophile's? You know the ones that really appreciate their wine but it never seems to stay in their collection for very long. I have a few of those 
And since we like making gifts instead of buying them, I thought we'd make her a little wine rack for that fleeting collection of hers.

This little wall-mounted, industrial chic wine rack must be one of the easiest things to make. You don’t need any fancy tools either. Just a screwdriver and a hand saw, plus some wood, plumbing bits, flanges and screws.
Our friend is big on the whole black and white decor trend so all the plumbing bits were sprayed a matt black.
For the back of the wine rack, we cut a few wooden planks and then experimented a bit with different painting techniques to age the wood a little and give it character.
My personal favorite is painting over tacky PVA glue. I just love watching those cracks form 
Once the back was completely dry we screwed the plumbing bits on and added a novinophobia sign. Don't you just love that word?

I am confused. Are the pipes all the same depth? How do you get them in the rack? Do you slide the bottle up through the top pipe the let it rest on the bottom? Love the look!

Hi Rosemary, the bottles are put in from the bottom upwards, if that makes sense. We've made two different versions. This one for a friend who's a casual drinker and the wine doesn't stay long in the rack
The other one was done for a serious wine collector and we made the bottom pipe shorter so the wine can rest at an angle. Here's a piccy of that one.

Have a question about this project?
I would love to use this idea in my bathroom. Would make great towel bars and T.P. holders. Also would like to use in shower as grab bars but am concerned about rust. What other materials do pipe fittings and pipe come in?
What is the total measurement? How far apart are the pipes for the bottles? I am making one for myself, my niece, and my two stepdaughters :-)
Love it! Possible dumb question: What is actually holding the wine bottles from falling? Especially the bottom one?
