Ikea Stool Makeover

Hi Hometalkers! It's Jess from Jessica Welling Interiors. I've been working on my little girls' boho bedroom makeover, and after making these DIY floating desks, we needed chairs to go with. And I wanted something cheap! So I got MARIUS stools from IKEA for $6 each and gave them a boho glam makeover with spray paint.

The stools come in 3 main pieces- the seat and the two leg frames (plus some hardware that won't show). I spray painted the seats- one lavender and one dark purple to go with the room's color scheme. When spray painting, I always hold the can about a foot from the surface I'm spraying, and move it back and forth, overshooting the sides. I've got a video here if you want to see how it's done.

I always shake the can well. I start with a very light coat. This coat isn't meant to get full coverage- just to think of it as a light dusting. I let that dry for about 10 minutes, and then I come back and do a more thorough coat to get full coverage.

I spread the leg frames out and spray painted them gold, waiting overnight to turn them over and spray the other side. This picture shows all four frames for both stools.

Once everything was good and dry, I assembled the stools according to the instructions on the package. That's it!

This bedroom makeover has been so fun to work on with the kiddos! We just have a few more projects to finish up, and I would love for you to follow along! icon Click HERE to see what we're up to!

That is so. Cute. I bought two of those stools to put plants on. Now I’m ready to change them into something else. I have a 13 year old step daughter that only gets to visit 8 weeks a year. Now I see a way to update her room and I can use it for sewing or crafting when she’s not in town. Thanks for the inspiration.

Weird thought but a cute way to change this up would be to use a toilet seat cover on top of the stool

They are already elasticized and come in a variety of patterns, textures and colors, etc

Could even use some batting amd then the cover to make it more cushioned
