Do you have a dark spot in your home you would love to add a touch of light to but don’t want to spend a small fortune on? I have an affordable and easy DIY pendant light project you can put together in less than 30 minutes.

Today I want to share how I turned a dark corner into a little reading nook with a DIY boho —maybe farmhouse style — pendant light.

Here's the dreary and not so pretty home office corner.

This viewpoint has undergone some changes. Here is what the home office corner looks like today.

Let me show you just how easy this was to put together.

Materials needed:

  1. basket or bamboo lantern repurposed
  2. plug in pendant light kit ( Walmart)
  3. drill or screwdriver to modify basket/lantern
  4. bamboo skewer or small dowel
  5. clippers or scissors to cut skewer/dowel
  6. hot glue gun
  7. ceiling hook
  8. light bulb

First start with a basket, lampshade, or in this case a 70% off bamboo lantern.

When I flipped the lantern, I knew it would make a perfect modern boho style pendant light.

Second step is to take a Phillips screwdriver to remove the battery operated candle.

Next take a small dowel (a bamboo skewer would work too) to create a frame for the light bulb to hang from. Basically measure two pieces to fit across the center of the hole. Make sure to include the light fixture in this process so you can determine center.

Then cut two smaller pieces to fit on either side of the pendant so that the light stays in place.

Add a light bulb then figure out where you want the pendant to hang. Screw in the ceiling hook, hang your new light, and you are done.
