From Blah to Springtime Cottage Chic! Magazine Rack Table

I think these magazine racks are so old time and quaint. I found this one on one of my recent scavenger hunts and I couldn't wait to start painting it. Once again, I didn't get a before picture in its original condition. I only remembered to take the photo after sanding down the glossy finish.
This is the table after I sanded it.
I decided this table needed a fun springtime color so I chose freshwater by Sherwin Williams. For a shabby chic look I used one thin layer of flat paint and let the background show through, brushing in a random pattern to show an inconsistent brushstrokes pattern. I let the paint dry only 5 or 10 minutes and then rubbed the surface with a damp cloth just enough to make it look a little chippy. The surface was a little dull and the color darkened slightly as it dried. I then used a thin coat of clear minwax finishing paste. This brought out the brilliant blue and left a soft sheen. I love the way it came out!
