Convert an Existing Fence Into a Gate

We needed an easier way to gain access in and out of our backyard while we work on some large projects. We turned our existing fence into a gate. Thankfully we have wonderful neighbors who are like family to us so this was a win win for everyone.
Determine Your Preferred Gate Size and mark for cuts on each side, top and bottom.
Begin cuttingline at a 50 to 60 degree angle so the gate doesn’t bind when it’s opened or closed.
Carefully Take the Gate down
You are going to have to reinforce the gate in a few areas. Stop by the blog to see specifically the areas were we did this.
Attach the gate to the fence posts. You will most likely want to put a piece of wood on the ground to help keep it level while another person helps hold the gate. Screw one side of the hinges to the fence post, and align the gate between the adjoining gate posts and screw in the other side of the hinges to the gate. Do this for the top and the bottom, making sure to use a levelor. It should be attached so that the bottom is about an inch off the ground .
Install the gate latch and stain any of the wood that does not match. I have a list of supplies you will need to complete this project on my blog.
