How to Create a Mosaic Mandala for Your Garden!
We all know how important garden outside space has been over last year or so and part of improving our mental well-being and staying upbeat is surrounding and appreciating colour and so what better way to help focus in here and now and cheer the outdoor space than to create some garden art!
I begin with a piece of cement backer board from my local DIY store is very cheap and out of one sheet I can make many pieces of you can cut to size.
I start to draw some circles with pencil using what I have to draw around to get it nice and central and even shapes.
When happy with outlines I begin to stick tiles from centre with PVA glue.use black for centre and work the design patterns and colours around carefully leaving space between tiles.
I love to choose colours that are light and dark and begins to build up a pattern . It’s so good to help focus your mind and while your gluing tiles you can lose yourself in the pattern which is deeply relaxing and mindful.
I use a mix of stain glass cut shapes and vitreous glass tiles but you can use whatever you have to hand or like .
It starts to get nice and colourful and working towards edges I use 10 mm black vitreous glass tiles to create the border and edges .
When all dry it’s time to grout with cement and I am using a powder mix that is suitable for outdoor use and experiment with colouring the grout with pale green acrylic paint. It is easy to mix with water until a paste like consistency.
working it into all the crevices and the edges and then wipe off with wet wipes cleaning it slowly to reveal the beautiful pattern.
And now it’s ready to grace my patio garden with its beauty!
