How to Make a Pot Person
We went to Menorca this year for a family holiday.
While in the town of Mahon my daughter spotted a Minion pot person and was desperate to buy one.
We just didn't have the baggage allowance to take it home so I promised her we'd make one.
So this summer that's exactly what we did.
I bought two of these terracotta pots from Wilkinsons for 60p each. They are small. But I didn't want a huge minion pot person in my small garden so these were perfect for me.
You can However go as big as you like and use smaller ones for arms and feet of you wish.
After brushing off any excess dust and dirt (I used the dustpan and brush to dust it down) draw on your chosen design.
Remember to make a pot person the head (top pot) and body (bottom pot)
Need to be joined by their bottoms
What I mean is that the opening of the pot for the body needs to face down and the smaller bottom end meets the bottom of the 'head' pot. With rh opening facing up.
This should make a figure 8 sort of shape - see finished result for further instruction.
I used acrylic paint.
This is because acrylic is strong, fast drying and can stick to pretty much anything.
I used a lot of coats for the yellow.
I think I counted 8 in total till I got to the desired colour.
Keep going and don't forget to add in the details
Leave to fully dry while you sort out the rope
I used this rope.
It came with a picture hanging set I never used. It doesn't stretch and looked sturdy enough to withstand the English weather. I had ordered rope for this project but it was to thick for the small pots I purchased.
Cut 2 peices. 1 for the large hoop which will also form the legs. I used 1 meter but you may need more or less depending on your overall desired look and the size of your pots.
The second piece will form the arms. This will be considerably smaller in length.
When I cut the rope it started to fray.
I decided that to prevent this from fraying to the point it unravels I would dip the ends in wax.
I didn't have any candles so I used the wax from my wax burner.
While the wax end dried I used outdoor mod podge Just to make sure the acrylic was sealed.
Once dry this will go clear so don't worry
This is thicker then normal mod podge so highly recommend this for outdoor use.
Make sure to leave a large hoop to be able to hang the pot person (if desired)
Pull the rope thought the wholes.
Once thought both pots. Turn the bottom/body upside down and tie 3 knots as tight as you can.
Then in the middle of the pots tie the smaller rope to the main rope. This will create the arms
Now you can hang your pot Minion
And add your plants.
I decided it needed some knots in the ends for it's hands and feet.
If you have gone bigger you could use smaller pots for hands and feet.
Ta da!
