Planting in unusual junk adds so much interest to a junk garden! When one of my church friends gave me a vintage insulator, I had an idea!

This is a vintage high frequency insulator.

This is the inside top of the insulator. It reminds me a glass sink bowl.

I had to come up with an idea to use the insulator as a planter. I found this plant pot holder stake at our local Menard's. The insulator fit the holder perfectly.

I didn't think the black metal holder looked industrial enough for the insulator, so I picked up Rustoleum Aluminum Spray Paint at our local Menard's and sprayed on two coats of paint.

Now the holder looks industrial!

Next, I gathered three types of Sempervivums (hen & chicks) from my yard, potting soil, and a hand shovel. I planted the succulents in my insulator.

Here is my planted insulator with hen and chicks.

I pushed the pot holder stake into the ground under the eaves of my house. The insulator has no drainage holes so I didn't want rain to wash the soil out of the insulator. I will be careful not to overwater the hen and chicks.

I gathered other rustic/junky garden decor around the insulator planter! I love my new planter. More unusual planters for hen and chicks can be found HERE and HERE.
