Hi there, Friends! Could your front porch or entry use a little love? Come see how I refreshed mine with a stencil and a little paint…

After: Simple stenciled porch greeting

My small front porch has been long overdue for some attention. The faded concrete stain had become an eyesore that was resistant to power washing, but I came up with a solution for a pretty porch refresh.

Porch steps BEFORE

After power washing the area, I painted the steps and entry with gray porch paint, but if your steps only need cleaning you can skip painting them before stenciling.

Porch steps before stenciling

Start by taping the stencil to the step with painter’s tape.

Tape stencil to steps

The Hello stencil adds a little something extra to the steps and it's a fun way to greet guests as they approach the front entry. Find a stencil here!

Stencil with a stiff brush and outdoor paint

Next, use outdoor craft paint and a stiff brush to stencil the letters. (If you’re wondering how well the paint lasts, I stenciled the step over a year ago and it hasn’t faded a bit!

To complete my summer porch refresh, I added hardy vinca plants because they can take the Texas heat and will continue to bloom until fall, AND the deer don’t eat them!

First, your porch refresh is pretty, and so inviting! Great job! Second, glad the deer are leaving your vinca alone. Mine on my patio and front steps have been eaten down to the dirt by deer twice this spring/summer already, and some even pulled up by the roots! Along with my braided hibiscus foliage/flowers! And my hostas and impatiens around the corner! I'm about ready for some venison cubed steak, etc.! Any suggestions for what REALLY works for deterring deer (aside from eating them, LOL)?
