Color on screen door??

I got a new wood screen door and I am wondering if I should paint it the same color as the door itself? I don’t have the picture to post here because I haven’t painted the door, too. I plan to paint the door orange. The house will be patina aqua with white trims and light green shutters/rails. Your suggestion will be greatly appreciate.

I would paint it either the same color as the door or white to match the other white trims.

Looking at a lot of pictures on the internet, I would go with the same color as the door. If you want that door color to pop and be the centerpiece (which I think is the reason you may have picked orange) than any color on a storm door will mask it. Is it a storm door with a lot of glass? Regardless, I think painting the same color as your door will blend in well and create the look you are going for.

👍🏻 Great!! It will look nice!

  • I painted mine the same color. The screen was removable, so I painted the frame around it white for a little contrast. Here's a link to it:

Orange and aqua are not complementary colors. I would paint the the screen door white like the trim or the light green that the shutters are.

Hello. That is a personal decision that suits your own aesthetic. Personally I like them to match so that’s not a visual distraction. Typically you want your front door to be a pleasing focal point and two different colors might be a more of a distraction.

Sounds like you’re not afraid of color! Is the screen door attractive? If it isn’t than definitely paint it the same color as the door. No reason to highlight it if you don’t love it. If it’s a beautiful door you may want to paint it a different color or shade.

Since you want the accent of orange to draw attention to the front door, I'd paint the screen door the same color (orange) so as not to detract from the beauty of the orange front door.

Amy: I think you could go either way~. ...or, if you're really brave with color... go with the complement of orange (blue) for a funky look!

Paint will help preserve your door. You may want to paint it the same color as the front door. Be careful to not get paint on the screen. Mark it off or better yet, remove screen if possible.

Yes, I’ll remove the screen to have the screen door painted...

You could white wash it, you could use a clear sealer or you could paint it a color. It doesn't have to be the same color as the door itself. My doors are dark color and my screen door is white.

  • I’d paint the screen door the same as the front door, that way it all blends together. You can certainly try a different color to see, it is only paint and easily redone if you don’t like it.
