How to Craft a DIY Everlasting Candle for a Fragrant Home
Imagine the warmth of a candle that promises not only many hours of soothing glow but also a visually stunning and aromatic experience.
Affordable, quick, and stylish, this craft is ideal for creating an inviting atmosphere when guests walk through your door.
1. Prep Your Base
Begin by filling a glass halfway with water.
2. Gather Your Ingredients
I chose to add apple slices, orange peel, lemon slices, cloves, star anise, and cinnamon sticks to the water. I was going for a warm, wintery scent.
Once your ingredients are in add a little more water.
3. Oil Up
Now pour a thick layer of oil into the jar. Be generous but leave some space at the top to avoid spills.
As an additional way to enhance the aroma, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. I added vanilla.
4. Construct Your Wick Holder
Now, it needs a way to burn!
Cut the bottom off of a plastic disposable cup.
Poke a hole through the center of the piece with a wooden skewer.
Thread a candle wick through the plastic, tying it off.
If you don't have a candle wick on hand but still want to try this DIY, here's a nifty alternative.
Find a candle you're willing to part with and cut it down the middle.
Carefully remove the wax from the wick. You can save the wax for another project down the road.
The upcycled wick can now be used for your everlasting candle.
5. Wet the Wick
Insert the wick into the water-oil mix, ensuring the longer side is up.
Push the plastic down, making sure it is submerged, and wet the entire wick.
End off by cutting the wick down.
6. Light it Up
Strike a match, light the candle, and bask in the satisfaction of your very own everlasting scented candle.
