DIY Dollar Store Chalkboard Paint Pumpkins

This Fall I have really been excited about decorating the house not just for Fall, but for Halloween as well. Today's post could be a decoration for either. The makeover was intended for Halloween, but I realized it actually blended really well my my Fall decor as well.
The pumpkins I used for this project were from my local $1 store. They are styrofoam, so I was a little worried they weren't going to react well with the chalkboard spray paint I planned to use. For those of you who might not know this, styrofoam will not accept spray paint. The spray paint will actually eat away at the styrofoam and it's not a pretty site! Thankfully the pumpkins already had some sort of coating that covered the actual styrofoam, so we were good to go to get started.
I took my pumpkins outside and gave each one about 2 coats of chalkboard spray paint. After giving them about 10 minutes to dry, I brought them in to start drawing my chalk pattern. I actually really liked them all black, so I kept a few of them without a pattern, but I did decide to decorate 2 of them.
I started off my chevron pattern with just one row. I then worked off that row and continued the pattern. After my chevron pattern was finished, I realized I had kind of made a mess and accidentally smeared my lines all over the place. Oops! I decided I would go ahead and intentionally smear the entire pattern to give the pumpkin an actual "chalkboard look." I was shocked on how much I loved the outcome.
The chevron pattern took a little longer than intended, so I wanted to give the second pumpkin a simpler pattern. I created a vertical dot pattern wrapping the second pumpkin and loved the contrast it had against the chevron pumpkin. What do you guys think? These would be cute wth diamond studs in them or even different color stones.

You can buy chalk markers now that give you even More control so you can write words or make more intricate designs too. 😊 Love these!!!
