We are flipping an older home (You can read about those house renovations and what we are doing with each room by subscribing to my blog here)! and while replacing the floors, we discovered the boring metal front door no longer fit! So here is our inexpensive, colorful solution...
New doors can cost hundreds ... even thousands! But I remembered I saw a huge selection of used front doors at our local home supply store for $35-55. Score! Refurbishing old doors is the way to go! My husband cut the door to match the old one with the cutouts for the hinges and we got it hung - I was worried installing a (new) old door to fit would be tough, but it wasn't too bad!
The existing holes in the door did not fit our new door handle, so we made new holes. Read my full blog post to see how I patched the old holes.
Now get ready to paint - first tape off the handle and hardware and clean with 50/50 denatured alcohol and water.
I wanted the door to be painted in my favorite color - General Finishes Coastal Blue Milk Paint! This milk paint is a great choice for front doors because it's an indoor/outdoor paint so it's durable for the elements. Three coats of paint went on very quickly.
I'm loving the new front door - so much curb appeal! And I'm actually so glad the floor project was an excuse to change it out.

I love General Finishes Milk Paint too. And I am ready to paint my front door. Which size did you buy to get the three coats? The quart, or the pint? - Nanette
