Need a Bar for a Party in a Hurry (and Inexpensively)?!
With the weather warming up, with graduations, summer parties - and any reason to eat and drink outside, I needed a temporary bar (and again, I didn't want to spend a ton of money). So here was my solution.
10 of these bricks...and a little wood and you will have functional bar.
Added eye hooks to the wood as a rail to keep bottles from falling off the front or back.
Added eye hooks to the wood as a rail to keep bottles from falling off the front or back. The eye hooks in the back are taller than the front.
A little paint and stencil work makes it a decorative bar and you hardly notice it's made of cement blocks.
Voila! The finished project. The wood goes in the middle for a shelf, then one on top for the rest of the drinks. I decorated with mint and basil - people can add them to their water or muddle them for a fresh drink.
I don't recommend going over 4 feet, otherwise the wood will bow. You can go longer by adding another set of bricks.
Here is the whole front patio...last month I shared the cocktail tables - and now we have the bar. All easily deconstructed for the winter months or reused for another project.

I surrounded a small patio I made outside the small exit door of a shed whe got with reclaimed paver bricks from a walkway we dismantled held in place by the extra cinder blocks we had got to level the shed before they delivered it. I put the cinder blocks sideways with the openings facing up and filled them with potting soil and colorful marigolds to help keep the bees from coming around so much and put a couple chairs and a small table on it so we could watch the deer in the mornings and evenings with our coffee/tea. I’d suggest maybe putting a mosquito plant on the table as well.

Have a question about this project?
You had made a colorful bench out of cinder blocks and 4x4s. I thought I wrote it down. Can you repeat
Hello. Looks great but not really stable on the left side. the top cinderblock appears to be leaning. As someone else asked, is there any type adhesive used to hold things together?
Hi Clarissa,
In the first pic, is that a piece of rebarb stabilizing the cinder block?
