Patio Furniture Makeover!

10' x 10' Builder Grade Patio YAY!!
This is the (UN)inviting patio area that we are going to focus on today. I looked at the 10 x 10 and asked what can make this better. Anything! Okay, seriously in an outdoor space that has not much room what can be done and not make the area feel cramped? So I am looking to “Re-Purpose 4 A Purpose”.
Re-Purpose Sofa Cushion for New Pillow
1.  To begin making your pillows cut out (2) pieces of fabric at the same time. I am Re-Purposing an old sofa pillow ; the stuffing from that will be the stuffing for the pillows. NOTE:  The size of my pillows are 18” x 22” & remember you can have any size pillows that works for you. NOTE:  One thing that will save you time is pinning more than one piece of fabric at a time and you can cut out 2 pieces at a time.
Re-Purpose Carpet Padding for softer cushion
2. I then begin to cut the padding into a half moon shape. Now the Half-Moon needs the same pretty fabric as your new pillows that you made and/or purchased.  The 2 pieces that are needed are the top and bottom of the cushion for the half moon, round ottoman, and the storage ottomans. I traced the “half moon” shape on the carpet padding for extra softness, height, and it costs nothing compared to paying $40- $80 a yard for 4” thick form. The carpet padding (Re-Purposed) is an inch thick itself so I cut out one piece per side.  I then duplicated the same (process) in tracing for the round ottoman.
Little "D" helping on cutting fabric
3. I have some help today from Little “D”. I am laying out the fabric to cut the” half moon” shape out and Little “D” is not allowing me to do that right now. Okay, fabric pencils put marks on the fabric sometimes that I don’t like. When it’s a light color fabric I pin the old fabric to the new fabric and cut out the design. The 2 pieces that are needed are the top and bottom for the cushion, the half moon, round ottoman, and the storage ottomans
Little "D" brought me some help
4. I layered:
I. Batting (the padding to make the finish project smooth)
II. Piece of carpet padding
III. Form
IV. 2nd Piece of carpet padding
V. Batting
**The carpet padding makes it nice and thick but VERY COZY. This is for the round ottoman and the half moon shaped lounge. Sew the rise (the thickness of the cushion-in my case I have it 6” thick) to the trim (the trim is in yellow) to both sides of the rise. Now sow the rise with trim to the top piece. You should have the trim attached to the rise and the rise with trim attached to the top. The last piece to sew is the bottom piece to the rest BUT WAIT - the layered insides need to be put into the sewed piece before closing it up. Still sewing inside out-Sew 2/3 of the bottom piece to the (top, rise, and trim). NOTE;  This will allow you enough room to put the insides into the sewed piece and still have a relatively seamless appearance. The last 1/3 of the fabric has to be hand sown because you must turn the entire piece inside out now and insert the insides. Now you can sow the last third of the ottoman and “half moon” cushions closed. I suggest that you get a ‘Curved Upholstery Needle’ size #3 for your closure. You can hide the seams if you sow your closure underneath one of the trim pieces. Because you can’t see the underside once you sit the cushions down on the piece.
Half Moon Re-Do
Now this is the finished result. Once you've closed your cushions and made sure that the fabric is wrinkle free to the best of your ability. Note: Weather proof plus scotch guard your fabric (they sale them at Home Depot/Lowe's $10 a can so your fabric will stay clean and without stains).
Corner of Patio
Now, the space is the same but I was able to still utilize the entire patio without it feeling over crowded. We can thank Little "D" for all of her hard work and Little "D"'s helper. Monkey! Thank you for your comments and time! Have a Good D.I.Y. day!

Thank you so much. I enjoyed making this one. I wanted a nice adult space without feeling cramped. And still having a small budget to work on this project.
