Have an old CD tower laying around? Looking for more storage? Repurpose an old CD shelf as built-in pantry storage. We found a hollow area of vertical space in our pantry, cut into the drywall, and then installed the pantry shelf. The result? An upcycled piece of furniture and a glorious new storage shelf in our pantry for all of our spices and baking supplies.
Our good-sized pantry seemed to have so much space but was always full. We knew we wanted to utilize the space better. Ash found a hollow wall to the left of the main pantry shelves. Once we found this gold mine of space, we knew we could use it wisely.
Here is a picture of how the endoscope camera works - using a toy fire truck as a model. Ash then used this to determine the wall in the pantry was indeed hollow and could be utilized for storage.
From the outside here is the hollow space. It was a perfect vertical area very similar in shape to the old CD tower we had laying around our garage.
Ash cut a hole in the drywall, and installed the CD tower, affixing the shelf, and adding some trim. The old CD tower, instead of being sent to the curb, was now providing lots of new pantry storage - including all of our spices and baking materials.
