Modern Farmhouse Candlestick Makeover
Turn old outdated brass candlesticks into beautiful Modern Farmhouse Candlesticks with supplies you may already have on hand.
We found these brass candlesticks at a flea market while on vacation. For a dollar a piece, they were perfect for what I had in mind.
I didn't realize at the time I purchase them that the candle sticks actually screwed apart. This was better than I had originally expected for the quick and simple makeover I had in mind.
I searched through a pile of scrap wood and came up with three blocks of wood. A hole was drilled deep into the center of each block so that the stem of the candlestick would fit snugly inside.
The stem and cup of the candle stick were spray painted with a satin black spray paint.
Once they were dry. They were inserted into their new base. I did not use the original brass base. Had these candlesticks not screwed apart, I would of just sawed off the base of each one in order to complete this project, so you can see why I was thrilled to find out that the ones I purchased did screw apart.
I added a white taper candle, although the ones I had on hand were longer than I wanted. To solve the problem, I simply cut off about 2 inches from the bottom of each candle. They were originally 10 inches long and I cut them down to 8 inches.
We love the modern, yet rustic feel of these candlesticks. This project was completed in just a few hours and the results are beautiful. Get creative and add different size or shapes of wood to create your own stunning candlesticks!
