Well it was obvious when I made the filing cabinet garden planters that they would last a few years and then begin to rust. After all, with wet soil touching the insides of the cabinet and the outside being rained on - even with Killrust primer and paint, there comes a point where a little rust is inevitable. So, to keep it fresh and give it a new lease of life - this is what I did.

First, I made a new one to replace the rusted one. Same method as before. Drainage holes drilled in the back and drawers removed. Two coats of Killrust Heavy Duty Primer to the outside, followed by two coats of Killrust topcoat - Delicious Red specific for painting metal. So this is the new one. Old one was pulled onto the lawn (after digging out most of the soil to make it light enough to move).

This is the old one which shows the rust forming. Not bad really for approx 4 years outside and planted up.
