We cleaned the light fixture and gave it a coat of white spray paint to over up a couple of rust spots.
How to Change Out a Light Fixture
Our house was built in the early 60's so most of our overhead light fixtures are outdated glass globe lights. We are slowly changing them out as we can. Recently we visited Black Dog Salvage and fell in love with a Mid Century light fixture that was perfect for our front entry. I am going to walk you through how we changed the light fixture and what issues we ran into.
We removed the old light fixture.
Problem number 1 was that the ceiling was discolored underneath the old light fixture and the new light fixture was not large enough to cover it. Since we did not want to repaint the ceiling, we chose to install a medallion, which we found at Home depot. (Seen in the picture below)
The other problem is that the screw placement on the new light was wider than the old one, which you can see by comparing this picture to the previous one. We purchased an extender bracket to replace the existing one.
We wired the new light and installed the shades.
I love the way it looks! It matches our style and gives off much more light!
