Craft Room Makeover - Extreme Upcycling - Hidden Storage
I am getting closer to finishing my craft room makeover and I am very happy with my latest project. It gives me some extra storage space and also keeps my messy craft supplies out of sight.
The process is pretty simple but I still enlisted the hubbies help with some of the power tools used to cut some old fence pieces into shelves and cutting the hole in the drywall.
The first step was to mark the wall in the size and shape that I wanted. The trickiest part of this step is making sure that the marks are between the wall studs.
Once the hole was cut in the wall I used some cardboard to make the brackets to hold some shelves that were cut from old fence pieces. I used tape to cover the edges of the drywall and then covered the wall with the book paper and mod podge.
I decided to add accent colors to the shelves with some customized stains. Some of the stains matched my paint colors better than the others but I still like the added color. You can find out how to make custom stain colors here in a project that I made for Easter.
Once the shelves were in place I added a mirror with some hinges to hide the storage space.

Thanks Heather,
I absolutely love the storage space it is shallow so everything is easy to see, find and keep organized. Thanks again for your comment.

Love this. I have not been brave enough to cut into drywall. I would try to find old shutter / or cover mirror in some way. I am not much of a mirror decorator. Thanks
