DIY Garland
I wanted to make a patriotic garland to use for Memorial Day and July 4th. It was super easy and by making it myself I could add as little or much as I wanted.
I used 5 different types of fabric. I purchased 3/4 yard of each. I also purchased jute string because I wanted to use something a bit thicker. Not pictured- I also bought wooden stars and painted them (last minute decision)
I used an exacto knife to cut the strips. I also used a piece of wood to create a straight edge. I cut the strips into 10” inch long (give or take) strips. I made the strips about 2 inches wide, but I could have gone wider.
Cut your string the length you want your garland to be. I cut mine 5 feet long. You can cut it to your preference.
Tie the strips of fabric to the jute string. I placed them in bunches. I added about 1-10 strips to each section. I made sure I added all the fabric strips for variety but I didn’t go in a specific order. I added about 4 sections of strips to the entire jute string.
Alternate the fabrics to your liking. If you have a bolder fabric use it to highlight the sections. For example, the navy with stars was thicker and more expensive so I placed it more sparingly but in just the right spots.
The finished garland!
Here is shot of it with the wooden stars. I added them in each section.
