DIY Wood Vanity Top
If you are looking to replace an outdated vanity top but don't want to break the bank then why not use wood? A wood vanity is an affordable way to update the look of your bathroom. Here's what you need to get this look.
This is a project panel from Lowe's. They come in different lengths depending on what you need. This project panel only cost me about $25! I measured the space and cut it to the appropriate length.
I decided to use 1x5 boards for the backsplash. The corners were mitered to 45 degrees.
The panels come in one width but different lengths. It wasn't quite wide enough and there was a gap along the wall and in the front but I knew this ahead of time. The backsplash covers the gap along the wall. For the front gap, I cut and installed a small piece of trim board. Everything was stained Early American by Minwax.
Here is a close up of that trim piece on the end. When installing the backsplash, I brought the board all the way to the end of the top. I used liquid nails and my brad nailer to attach the backsplash and trim piece.
To keep moisture at bay, I found this Waterlox sealer on Amazon. It had great reviews and is supposed to be the best to seal any wood that is exposed to moisture. It did cost $37 but it is a good size jug and I will have some left over for future projects. It will give the wood a medium sheen so if you are going for a matte finish this may not be the product for you.
Here is the completed top! I love the look of the stained wood with the white cabinets. Now all it needs is a new sink and faucet!

Thanks! Yes I purchased an affordable square vessel sink from Amazon. I believe it was only $50. I’ll have it linked on the blog once I get to that step. LOL

I wanted to redo my bathroom counter using leftover flooring, but the person I wanted to pay to do it said it wouldn't work because it needed to be a water-resistant material. I wish I could do some of this stuff myself because paying someone to do it - you get a lot of push back to use new materials, and I am all about repurposing.
