How to Paint an Internal Door
Here's how to paint an internal door with glass panels. You can find even MORE door painiting tips on my DIY blogpost here.
Here's a solid hardwood door with glass panels that my parents found. Overall, it was sturdy, but the paint job was terrible with flaky paint, so I'm going to show you how I restored it.

Because my paint was flaky, instead of just keying it with sandpaper, I decided to use a carbide scraper to remove it all.
This ensures that when I come to paint it at the end, that my finish is likely to last.
For tricky areas, I used a liquid sander to strip the paint too.
I then mixed a hard wood filler with a catalyst (I use one that comes with it, like Ronseal), then filled all the damage I could see.
Then sanded it all once dry.
I then masking taped all of the glass windows up to the chamfered trim.
After removing the door handle, I used a paint brush and cut into the tricky areas.
Then painted an undercoat with a foam roller.
Top tip: the colour of your undercoat will affect the final finish.
White = colour pops
Dark = makes your final coat a shade or two darker
After my first undercoart, I gently ran a flexible 220 grit sanding pad everywhere to remove any flecks that may have dried on the paint.
Then patched up anywhere I felt necessary.
I repeated with my final colour. Again, using a paint brush first and painted the rest.
Note: I gave it two coats.
Then for the reveal, I carefully scored and peeled away the masking tape and used a green plastic scourer to gently remove any paint bleed through without damaging my new paint work.

Note, this is painted in RAL 4004, if you ever want the same colour. It's a rich pink door.

For areas seen at eye level such as the glass sections in a door, I would recommend that you use a quality brand name of painters tape designed for the purpose, instead of masking tape. Applied correctly, there will be minimal or no bleeding, and it will be easier to take off the glass without leaving any sticky residue.
