Transforming an Old Coffee Table Into Rainbow of Hope.
We have all been through such difficult times of late and to celebrate light and brightness as we emerge into more normality in life I decided to make a table to brighten up the mood and mark the occasion.
I won this on an online auction and though what a fabulous shape and design from 1960’s so started to plan the transformation.
I begin by covering the top with white copy paper and sticking with pva glue as this helps the tiles stick and gives me a blank white background to design on.
I love the choosing colours and mosaic tiles part of the transformation process. I use vitreous glass tiles in 10 and 20 mm so there’s no need for cutting which makes the whole process easier.
I decide to do a border of black and begin by glueing the little black tiles evenly spaced around the outside edge.
Then begin an easy stripe of colour with bigger tiles. I use the little black tiles to space the colours and create borders and contrast for the colours.
I keep building the stripes of colour in range of colours some bright some dark Make sure spacing is equal and neat.
Until the whole table is striped and leave to dry over night before grouting.
I use ready mixed grout in black and an old credit card or cardboard/plastic to splodge and smooth cement into the crevices. Working it back and forward for even cover.
I use a damp cloth to wipe of excess grout and clean up.
I am so thrilled with the colourful cheerful result. Just what is needed to bring hope and optimism.

Beautiful! What kind of glue do you use to stick the tiles down?
How do you never need to cut a tile? Did you measure specifically and buy specific sized tiles?
