Home Protection in 2014: Is Your Home Security System Out of Date?

Home security systems have evolved dramatically over the past decade. No longer do they simply sound an alarm if a door is opened. Security systems now incorporate some of the most sophisticated technologies available. This not only helps protect against intruders, but also offers more control over your home, regardless of where you are.
Then and Now
Since their founding 120 years ago, ADT monitoring has established a reputation for reliability, as well as a loyal customer following of over six million customers. ADT monitoring can attribute their reputation to not only reliability, but staying abreast of industry trends. Even in their earliest days, ADT monitoring was consistently updating their technology, creating telegraph-based alert systems among neighborhoods, which eventually expanded to include alerts sent to police and fire stations.
Home security systems today are not only becoming increasingly advanced, but affordable as well. Ten years ago, it was not uncommon for installation of a security system alone to cost over $3,000, plus the monthly monitoring fee. Today, installation is a fraction of the cost. Vivint, for example, charges a $99 installation fee for security equipment and a monitoring fee of about $54 a month. Other companies, like Protection 1, also offer promotions that waive installation fees altogether.
