I made this faux mantel a mantel in House Beautiful.
I know it's a bit outrageous for most, but I love it. It has many personal items glued in here and there. Check the website to see just how easy it was to make with basic woodworking skills.
This was like putting together a large puzzle, only better. I could cut the pieces to fit!
I added chalkboard paint to the firebox area for unique "fires" and holiday fun. I like to fill in the firebox area on faux mantels with added layers of wood for a realistic effect. It's hard for a mantel to look real with the baseboard and wall showing.
The mantel with updated painted walls and a better camera!
Faux mantel for our master.
Using scrap wood trims, old frames, and broken spindles.
Pulled everything out I could think of around the house.
The top with new wood turned into barn wood and set for autumn.
