Sewing Table Gets a New Life
I've seen lots of sewing tables and worked on a few as well. This one is the first I've seen of this kind. It's unique. What do you do with a table that has a big gaping hole in the top?
Here is the before...
I decided to go with a bold color.
I created a new plank style top with some small boards. I did have to go back and support underneath.
Using multiple colors of stains, the top came out looking like this.
Some new knobs added the finishing touch. I did use clear and dark wax on the base. The stained top was coated with hemp oil. What would you use it for? I think it would make a great entry table. Maybe hang a mirror above it.

This is brilliant! I suspect there are a lot of these sewing cabinets hidden in basements, garages and attics. You have given this piece of furniture a whole new life. Well done!

I have this exact table! Mine still has a removable top. It belonged to my mom, she made me promise not to paint it. After seeing yours I think I might have to go back on that promise.....she would have loved your table.

OMG that is a Singer sewing machine table. I just sold mine for $1200. Originally they had a top that covered the "big gaping hole".
