Repairing Damaged Plaster Walls
by

Our front foyer was a mess of water damaged plaster due to an overflowing downspout. We just didn't realize how bad it would be.
The dated wallpaper wasn't the big issue in this room. It was the water damage on the outside wall that needed attention.
Once we removed the wallpaper, the extent of the damage became apparent - crumbling plaster, rotten wallboard, unsafe wiring and water damaged wood supports. All this had to be removed before we could start rebuilding.
New wiring for the light switches was the first step. Then some new wood was put in to support the window above. Finally new insulation was added.
New drywall and a coat of primer and the room was finally ready to decorate.
My initial idea was to paint the walls and stencil gold fleur-de-lys over the creamy base colour. But the walls were too uneven to allow for a smooth finish. So we chose this bold wallpaper - it makes a statement in this small room.
