Ikea Butchers Block/Kitchen Island Makeover
by

I bought this kitchen island on ebay for $38. Wanted to make it over but do something different this time. I had almost a full tin of Minwax White Based Woodstain with a Slate Grey tint added to it, so decided to go the grey for this one. I added a tea towel or utensils rail and sanded and refinished the top with mineral food safe butchers block oil. This trolley was pale birch unfinished timber before I started on it.

Jeannie Andrews on Jan 03, 2015The little table looks good to me. I had a similar type piece that had been a bar, unpainted like yours. I left it that way for a while, took off the top shelf where the wine glasses could hang, and am now using it in my kitchen as an island. I painted the lower parts with Americana Decor Chalk Paint in Vintage, and waxed it with the light cream wax. Sanding in between the painting and waxing, for a bit of a distressed look. When I get it complete, I'll post a picture. The top of yours looks great!
